Northern Shrike Premium Print

$25.00

Locally printed on high quality watercolor paper, this image depicts a Northern Shrike displaying a species-specific behavior. It kills it's prey by using it's hooked beak to crack the prey's skull, and impales the victim on sharp objects, like thorns, forked twigs, or barbed wire. They don't have powerful talons like raptors do, so impaling the prey helps them tear it apart and also keeps the food secured "if" it decided to go back for more.

This is an 8 × 10” print of an original graphite and charcoal drawing by Arlo Smytheman.

Printed at Wide Angle in Hamilton, MT.

Signed by hand.
